I am Michael Ivanov, Ph.D., a New York licensed psychologist and a credentialed member of the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. With 20 years of experience working in universities, inpatient, and outpatient clinics, I have developed a particular expertise in couples therapy. Additionally, I specialize in the evidence-based treatment of various mood-related conditions, assisting clients with emotional regulation, stress management, and relationship challenges. My experience also extends to providing clinical supervision for graduate students and pre-licensed clinicians. I am fluent in both English and Russian.
I earned my Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, San Francisco. Prior to that, I obtained a Master's Degree (M.S.) in Clinical Psychology from San Francisco State University.
I have participated in extensive seminars on psychoanalytic theory and therapy at the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute, with a major focus on Psychoanalytic Couples Therapy. My training also includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT), and family therapy. I strive to tailor the best theoretical approach to each client's unique needs and goals, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method.
I led the study 'Perceptual Agreement: Assessing Reality & Illusion in Romantic Relationships' and conducted research on 'Behavioral Communication'. I have presented at numerous national and international conferences on topics such as individual differences, personality traits, and relationship assessments. My current work involves developing assessment tools and protocols for couples therapy and consulting with other researchers and graduate students on experimental designs and test development.
My fee is $250 for telehealth session and $300 for in-person session (Midtown Manhattan, Grand Central area).
Fee reductions are available for students and individuals with financial needs, with a sliding scale starting at $170. These are offered on a limited basis. I accept select insurance plans through Headway, including Aetna, United Healthcare, Oxford, and Oscar Health, also on a limited basis.
